There is still an overwhelming sense of the narrator's unavoidable responsibilities. He would prefer to watch the snow falling in the woods, even with his horse's impatience, but he has promises to keep, obligations that he cannot ignore even if he wants to. After a few more moments, the narrator reluctantly continues on his way. It is unclear what these specific obligations are, but Frost does suggest that the narrator is particularly attracted to the woods because there is not a farmhouse near. He is able to enjoy complete isolation. The poet gives the message of continuity of work in life. Q.8 Describe briefly the symbolic significance of the poem.
प्रस्तुत कविता का प्रतीकात्मक महत्व संक्षेप में लिखिये।
Ans. Outwardly the poem is about a horse rider who stops in a wood during snowy evening to see the beauty of nature. The forest where he stops is lonely, dark and deep. But soon he remembers about the promise which he has to keep. He is to go long before he sleeps. As such there is no time for him to enjoy the scenery of nature. The meaning here suggested is that all is above all. One should think to enjoy beauty only when he has fulfilled his promises. It means that persons should do their duties before he meets the etemal sleep i.e. death.
